Overview

The picturesque, snow-white country church of the Prophet Elias sits nestled in the North-west of Omodos, perched atop one of the village's highest hills, just two kilometres away. After years of neglect and ruin, the church was lovingly restored on November 2nd, 1975 by Lefkios P. Sozou, a resident of Omodos. Every July 20th, a joyous "Te Deum" liturgy takes place, attracting hundreds of faithful Christians who come to light candles and offer prayers to the Prophet Elias for rain and blessings. In accordance with the time-honored customs of the village, liturgies are held in all of Omodos's country churches every Saturday after the Resurrection, culminating in a Mass conducted in each of them during the Easter period.
